IPAC A Series Air-Cooled Aftercoolers

PRODUCTSTYLERATINGTYPE
AftercoolerFin & Tube200 PSIG / 400°FAir-Cooled

The A Series cools hot discharge air from a compressor with ambient air alone. Compressed air passes through a copper-tube, aluminum-fin coil while a direct-drive axial fan pulls plant air across it. The unit stands on its own legs beside the compressor, needs no water supply, and carries rigid threaded or flanged connections so flexible connectors are not needed. Standard construction is rated 200 PSIG at 400°F inlet.

Construction

Coil

  • Copper tubes with aluminum fins; copper fins available for corrosive plant air. Tubes are brazed into headers on the small and mid ranges and TIG-welded to steel tubesheets on the large range.

Fan and motor

  • Direct-drive axial fan. Models A005 to A030 run on 115 V single-phase open drip-proof motors, the A050 on a totally enclosed single-phase motor, and A080 and above on 230/460 V three-phase TEFC motors. Air motors with mufflers are an option where electric power is not wanted.

Cabinet

  • Heavy-gauge steel housing on four bolt-down legs. Air enters and leaves through rigid NPT connections up to 2-1/2 inches and 150# flanges above that.

Options

  • Low-ambient control packages, corrosion-resistant coatings, alternate tube, fin or housing materials, and custom builds where the catalogue does not fit.

Why an air-cooled unit

When there is no cooling water, or no wish to pay for it

  • No water piping, tower or chiller load
  • Delivers air within 15°F of the room
  • One frame, one power connection, one drain point

What We Need to Quote

A selection comes together quickly once the duty is stated.

  • Compressor SCFM and pressure, or the heat load
  • Inlet temperature and the cooling water or ambient temperature
  • Required outlet temperature
  • Design pressure and any code stamp

Replacing an Existing Unit

Where a unit is being replaced, the nameplate does most of the work.

  • IPAC or HiROSS model number, exactly as stamped
  • National Board number where one is fitted
  • Connection sizes and orientation
