IPAC 51 Series Water-Cooled Aftercoolers

PRODUCTSTYLERATINGTYPE
AftercoolerShell & Tube200 / 300 PSIGWater-Cooled

The 51 Series is IPAC's standard water-cooled aftercooler: a counter-flow shell and tube unit with compressed air inside the tubes and cooling water around them. Every model shares the same 51-1/8 inch overall length, so capacity is chosen by shell diameter alone and a larger unit drops into the same footprint. The small NPT-connected models (W0035 to W0065) are rated 300 PSIG; the flanged models are rated 200 PSIG. The series delivers a 15 to 20°F approach to the cooling water inlet temperature.

Construction

Tubes

  • Copper as standard. Stainless steel, admiralty brass and 90/10 copper-nickel are available for aggressive cooling water. IPAC's patented helical extended-surface tube is used where the duty calls for it; plain tubes are also offered.

Bundle

  • Fixed bundle as standard (the F in the long-form model number). Removable bundles are available for water that fouls.

Shell and heads

  • Carbon steel shell with 150#, 300# or 600# flanges to suit 200, 300 or 600 PSIG designs. Units mount vertically or horizontally.

Code

  • ASME Section VIII Division 1 U-stamp available; TEMA construction; CRN and PED registration on request.

Why the 51 Series

The economical choice where 15°F to the water is close enough

  • Same length across the range - upsize without re-piping
  • 300 PSIG rating on the four smallest models
  • Every model has a matched separator and drain trap

SCFM and GPM are at a 250°F inlet, 100 PSIG, 80°F inlet water. Cooling water demand rises with inlet air temperature - see the part page for the 200, 300 and 400°F columns. Separator and drain are the recommended IPAC companions.

Applications

Reciprocating Compressors

What We Need to Quote

A selection comes together quickly once the duty is stated.

  • Compressor SCFM and pressure, or the heat load
  • Inlet temperature and the cooling water or ambient temperature
  • Required outlet temperature
  • Design pressure and any code stamp

Replacing an Existing Unit

Where a unit is being replaced, the nameplate does most of the work.

  • IPAC or HiROSS model number, exactly as stamped
